Are You Doing Skin Care Routine In The Right Order?

If you’ve armed yourself with a great collection of skin care products, then you’re on the right path to a radiant, clear and ageless complexion.

Next, it’s important to use these various formulas in their proper skin care routine order to deliver superb absorption, repair at the cellular level and multiple benefits.

Our experts here at Organic Elements Spa have broken down the correct layering order for applying your skin care products:

Skin Care Routine General Rules

There is a rule that most skin care professionals agree on, and that is the thinner to thicker concept. We also believe that you always apply the product with the thinnest consistency first to the thickest, to obtain the most efficacy out of each.

After you have cleansed your face, you can begin the layering routine.

DAY

  • Toner
  • Serums
  • Eye Cream
  • Spot Treatments
  • Moisturizer
  • Face Oil
  • Sunscreen

Think of your toner like a primer because that is its role in prepping the face for ingredients to be better absorbed later on.

Serums go to work fast and contain highly concentrated elements for hydration or antioxidant infusion, etc. We recommend a Vitamin C serum for brightening the complexion and for preventing inflammation.

An eye cream is reserved for the thin, delicate eye area skin. Apply it before a moisturizer.

Spot treatments usually go on at night to do their deep repair action on acne or dark spots, etc. You can also lightly use them during the daytime.

A good moisturizer not only adds suppleness to the skin, but keeps all the layering line-up underneath for effectiveness.

A face oil doesn’t let anything by, so it seals the deal when you apply it last.

Sunscreen is also the daily product that every skin type needs simply for the ultimate protection. Apply at least an SPF 30.

In the evening, when you have removed all of your makeup and skin care products from the morning and washed your face, it’s time to layer once again.

NIGHT

  • Toner
  • Serums
  • Eye Cream
  • Spot Treatments
  • Moisturizer
  • Retinol
  • Face Oil

You will follow a similar layering guideline. The only difference is you are not applying a sunscreen at night.

For serums, we advise using one containing hyaluronic acid that draws moisture and plumpness to the skin as you sleep.

Retinol, Retin-A or any other kind of Vitamin A-derived formula works its magic at nighttime for superb cellular turnover. Use only a small amount as these active ingredients are potent.

Top it off with an oil like rosehip to soothe the skin as you go to sleep.
