How to Make Body Waxing Less Painful

Many people think body waxing is a recipe for a painful nightmare, but with the right care, it can be a luxurious spa experience. If fear of pain has made you reluctant to get a body wax, we have a few tips that can help make the process much easier.

1-Take A Painkiller Before Body Waxing

Taking a painkiller before getting your wax will help ease some of the potential pain before it comes. It does not have to be prescription strength; your usual dosage of an over the counter pain medication should suffice. Make sure, though, that you take it 30 to 45 minutes before your appointment. You want to give the painkiller plenty of time to kick in before the waxing begins.

2-Let Your Hair Grow Out

When you go to get your service done, your hair should be about a quarter of an inch long. This is the ideal length so the hair is not too long (more hair ripping) or too short (more skin pulling). If your hair gets too long between waxes, you can carefully trim it with scissors to shorten it or request that your esthetician trim it before starting.

3-Exfoliate Your Skin

Exfoliating clears away the layer of dead skin and dirt sitting on top of your skin. This makes the skin soft and supple for waxing. Exfoliating also helps lift any hairs that may be trapped under dirt or the skin. This not only helps ease the pain but helps avoid ingrown hairs afterward. Just remember to exfoliate at least two days before your appointment so your skin is not “raw.”

4-Find A Distraction During Your Body Waxing Session

Sometimes the expectation of pain can make the actual pain seem worse than it is. Listening to soothing music, playing a podcast, or watching your favorite television show can help keep your mind off of the task at hand. Just make sure you let your esthetician know first so you don’t seem rude.

5-Go to A Professional

Waxing is no simple feat. Going to a professional puts you in a position to get expert advice and care that will help you avoid unnecessary pain. Professional estheticians can help you find the best wax for your skin and hair needs, give you before and aftercare tips, and correct any potential pain causing factors before beginning the wax.
