Microdermabrasion Even For Sensitive Skin

You might have heard of microdermabrasion, the cosmetic technique that exfoliates the dead, dry, topmost layer of skin and softens the appearance of acne scars, blemishes, whiteheads, blackheads and fine lines. It also smooths out skin that’s been coarsened by sun damage and skin with uneven pigmentation. But you might be a bit nervous about it because your skin is sensitive. The good news is that there is no need to worry. Our licensed estheticians at Organic Elements Spa offer this skin rejuvenating treatment even for clients with sensitive skin. Our system allows us to select the intensity of the scrub from a 0-10 scale making it a great solution that is customized to each clients sensitivity needs.

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

During a session, fine, sand-like crystals are sprayed over the area of your face that needs treatment. This removes the upper layer of the skin. Some estheticians use a wand with a diamond head to remove the skin cells, formally called the stratum corneum. The wand has a vacuum that sucks away both the dead, dry skin cells and the aluminum dioxide residue. This treatment stimulates the body to produce not only fresh skin cells but springy materials called elastin and collagen. These proteins make up most of the dermis, which is the layer of skin just under the epidermis. They act as shock absorbers and keep the skin supple.

The Session

Microdermabrasion Even For Sensitive SkinEach session lasts about a half an hour, and there’s no downtime. You can go back to your routine shortly after the session ends. Some of our clients have the procedure on their lunch hour and go back to work. There might be some redness, and your skin might feel a little sore, but these side effects fade after a couple of days and are easily soothed with a moisturizer. To ease redness, a healing masque is applied as well as a sunscreen to protect your skin if you need to go outside.

Ideally, you should have more than one treatment. We recommend about six to twelve treatments about a week apart for optimum results.

Can You Be a Good Candidate Even With Sensitive Skin?

You’re a candidate for the procedure if you’re an adult in good health with skin conditions that may be minor to other people but are troublesome to you. It is especially useful when it comes to rosacea, acne or acne scars that are not too deep. Before you have a treatment, you’ll have a consultation with one of our licensed estheticians to make sure that your skin condition will respond well. You shouldn’t have the procedure if you’ve just had a chemical peel or dermal fillers, and if you’re pregnant, you should wait till you have the baby before you consider microdermabrasion. Our estheticians will tell you not to wax or tan in the weeks before you come in for a session.
